When Latitude was first available on my computer, I used it to keep up with close friends whom I wanted to know my whereabouts. Then I sort of forgot about this cool people locator because it wasn't always convenient for me to be at my desktop and check on my friends. That's where the beauty of Google Latitude comes in. You can know what your friends are up to at all times (if they choose to let you in on it) because your phone travels with you. It's really awesome being able to share locations and pinpoint to friends what you're seeing and doing, whether or not you are on vacation or just going about your daily routine. Some of the useful features of Google Latitude are as follows:
- See your friends on a map and find out who’s nearby so you can meet up
- Share your location continuously with whomever you choose. Help friends and family stay in touch with you, even when you can’t take out your phone.
- Control your privacy and share only city-level location, hide your location, or turn off background updating at any time.
- Latitude lets you share your location in the background, even when the app is closed or your device screen is locked.
Bear in mind that if you have a sneaky partner or significant other, they may not want you knowing their business at all times. Furthermore, they must have added you as a friend and you both be logged on in order for the system to work. If you want to be private, simply Hide Your Locations so friends cannot find you! To conserve battery life you can even toggle off the Background Updating any time you want in the Settings. Set your Distance in Miles or Meters and choose between Road or Satellite Map Type. (Additionally, you may enjoy Latitude from your computer at google.com/latitude to see where your friends are or turn on optional apps such as Google Location History for a personal history dashboard). Google Latitude is more than a locator app though. Get maps and communicate with friends too! To connect with buddies, tap on your friend's name to set Privacy, View Contact, Get Directions to them or Send E-mail to them. Staying in touch with family and friends has never been easier!
